UCLA Claims West Coast 7s Title
UCLA edged Cal 14-12 to win the 2014 West Coast 7s in San Luis Obispo on the weekend. The event was superbly organized by Andy Doukis from Cal Poly, and is now a staple on the College 7s circuit.
This Is American Rugby (TIAR) covered the tournament: "The West Coast 7s on paper were supposed to be straight forward but that's not the way it played out as upsets ruled. The number one upset was UCLA upsetting Cal 14-10 in the final. All-American Niall Barry scored first for UCLA only two minutes in with Ben Francis converted. It would stay 7-0 into the second half when Paul Bosco scored the first of his two tries for Cal. However, Russell Webb missed the conversion. That would be big as Pierre Croupon would score for UCLA with Francis converting to make it 14-5. Bosco would score his second try just before time, leaving Cal two points short."
